Olympic silver medalist Alexandre Enbert praised the skater’s performance Evgenia Semenenko during the first stage of the Russian Grand Prix in Ufa.
Semenenko won the stage in Ufa with a total of 289.37 points. Roman Savosin took second place (277.66), Andrey Mozalev third (259.47).
— Let’s start with single men. After all, it was in their competition that the intrigue lay. What would you note?
— First of all the wonderful return of Roman Savosin. Interesting programs, nice selection of images! We didn’t see Roman last season, so for me his performance in Ufa was a revelation. Over the past year, he has improved qualitatively in skating and image transmission.
— How did Savosin manage to immediately take second place in the Grand Prix stage after almost two years without competitive training?
— Roman has an experienced coach, Alexey Chetverukhin, who knows how to prepare an athlete for competitions. Of course, Evgeniy Semenenko made a strong impression with his free skate. I liked her short program better during the skating tests that took place a month ago at Megasport in Moscow. Now it rolled it evenly with a few spots. But he performed his free skate in full force. It turned out great! No matter how good Roman was, Zhenya surpassed him in all respects – jumping, speed. And he won the stage deservedly.
— Ilya Averbukh said that with such a performance Semenenko could win the European Championship and be in the top 5 in the world? Do you share his opinion?
— Even the stages of the Grand Prix are difficult to compare with each other. If only because they have different teams of judges working for them. But the fact that with his program Semenenko can achieve victory in Europe and a place in the top five in the world is 100%, the press service of the Russian Olympic Committee quoted Enbert as saying.
The second stage of the Russian Grand Prix will take place in Omsk from October 20 to 22.
