Warren: Zhang is WBO mandatory challenger so he will aim to win title

But for the promoter the priority is the fight between Fury and Usyk

Frank Warrenco-promoter of the heavyweight Zhang Zhilei, spoke about the boxer’s plans to become a world champion. But it’s too early to talk about a championship fight for the Chinese contender.

“There is a lot of work ahead. Zhang is currently the WBO mandatory challenger, so he will be looking to win the title. Let’s see what will happen next.

The fight between Tyson and Usyk is signed, and this is a priority over everything. So it’s too early to talk about a championship fight for Zhilei. I think mandatory requirements will be introduced sometime next year,” Warren said.

In his last fight, Zhilei defeated Joe Joyce in a rematch that took place in London. Zhang knocked out the Briton in the third round and retained his status as a contender for the WBO belt.

Previously, Zhilei’s manager Terry Lane stated that Tyson Fury was the first target for their team. Lane believes that three boxers remain at the top of the heavyweight division – Usyk, Fury and Zhang, while the rest are much lower than this three.
