Kunitsa – about the duet with Kostornaya: “We started working with an eye on sports and realized that all our previous pair skating was in kindergarten”

Russian figure skater Georgy Kunitsa, performing in a duet with Alena Kostornaya said the show’s early performances were not up to the training needed to prepare for the competition.

At the beginning of the year, European champion Kostornaya switched from singles to pairs skating and now performs with Kunitsa. The pair’s competitive debut will take place on stage at the Russian Grand Prix in Omsk.

— Are entertainment and sports partners similar? Totally different. When Alena and I skated in the show, no one assessed the level of complexity of this or that element, its quality. After we started working with a focus on the sport, we quickly realized that all of our previous pair skating was in kindergarten, nothing more. Here the partner has a completely different responsibility.

In addition, Alena has certain ambitions. She is a European champion, which means she would never agree to skate like that, without demanding maximum results. It is clear that she wants to achieve this as quickly as possible,” Kunitsa said, as quoted by RT.

The Grand Prix stage in Omsk will take place on October 21 and 22.
