Eden is not making long-term plans yet and is enjoying life
Belgian ex-footballer Eden Hazardwho recently announced his retirement, spoke about why he made this decision, how difficult it was for him, and shared his plans for the future.
“I don’t miss football yet. I take time for myself. One day I will definitely miss football. I watch it on TV, my sons play football, so I’m never far from the game.”
“Why did you decide to end your career? You can’t explain everything in life. I’m at peace with myself. I’m happy. I won’t say it was difficult, but it wasn’t easy. I thought about it for a long time and it helped. I have so many things to do besides football that I was able to make a calm choice.”
“Rumors of Union’s interest? There was nothing there. I’ve heard a lot of nonsense but it’s part of the transfer window. It was great to see my name associated with so many clubs. Especially in Belgium. I never had the opportunity to play for a Belgian club. It could have been a great story, but it didn’t happen.”
“The years in Real Madrid – overall it wasn’t bad. I met incredible people. The opportunity to play in the best club in the world was my dream.”
“I think I left too early. But it wasn’t a whim.”
“What am I going to do next? Enjoy life. Ride a bike, play golf, travel. How normal people do it.”
Let us remind you that the 32-year-old Belgian announced his retirement on October 10. He turned down several offers during the summer transfer window. At the end of August, it was reported that Crystal Palace were interested in Eden.
Throughout his career, Hazard played for French Lille, London Chelsea and Real Madrid. At club level, the winger made 623 appearances and scored 167 goals. The footballer is also the owner of 15 trophies (champion of France, twice each of England and Spain, winner of the Champions League and twice of the European Championship).
Hazard played 126 matches (33 goals) for the Belgium national team. Eden played in three World Cups (2014, 2018, 2022), as well as two European Championships (2016 and 2020). In 2018, Hazard was the captain of the Belgian national team and won bronze at the world championship with the team. At Qatar 2022, he played in all three matches, after which he announced his retirement from the national team.
