“We are cautiously optimistic.” Russian Squash Federation President talks about international competitions

The Russian Squash Federation (RFS) is in constant contact with the international federation and there is cautious optimism on the issue of admitting Russians to international competitions, said FSF President Sergei Zhilin.

Following a vote by IOC members at a session in Mumbai, five new sports have been included in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles: squash, along with baseball/softball, cricket, flag -football (a limited contact version of American football) and lacrosse.

— We are in permanent contact with the international federation. Judging by their attitude, we are cautiously optimistic. They carefully tell us, let’s wait, everything can change,” Zhilin said on the air of the program “Everyone for the match!” on the channel.

At the end of March, the IOC announced recommendations for the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions. Recommendations include individual admission, neutral status, banning participation in team sports, and banning the participation of athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the SVO.
