Milan goalkeeper Sportiello is injured. 40-year-old Mirante will have to play against Juventus

The Rossoneri’s third keeper has not started in official matches for two and a half years

Problems at Milan’s goalkeeping line: the club officially reported an injury Marco Sportiello. Given the disqualification of the main goalkeeper Mike Maignanthe 40-year-old will have to play against Juventus Antonio Mirante.

The Red and Blacks reported that reserve goalkeeper Marco Sportiello suffered an injury to the medial part of his left calf. The 31-year-old Italian will be out of action for at least 10 days before undergoing another MRI scan.

Let us remind you that at the end of Milan’s previous match, away against Genoa (1:0), the team’s main goalkeeper Mike Maignan was sent off. Due to the lack of replacements, striker Olivier Giroud stepped into the goal and helped the team defend a clean victory, which brought Stefano Pioli’s team into sole leadership.

It was planned that in the fundamental confrontation of the 9th round against Juventus (October 22), the disqualified Frenchman would be replaced by the reservist Sportiello, as he had successfully done three times this season. But now circumstances force Pioli to turn to the services of a third portier – Antonio Mirante, who turned 40 in July.

Mirante played for eight Italian clubs throughout his career, including Juventus, although only in Serie B (2006/07 season). At Serie A level, Antonio played 369 matches, finishing 115 of them with a clean sheet.

A goalkeeper does not lack experience, unlike playing practice. The last time he started an official match was in April 2021, while still with Roma.

An alternative could be 19-year-old Lapo Nava, but he does not have the slightest experience of playing at senior team level.

Milan, with 21 points from eight rounds, takes first place in the championship. Juventus is third with 17 points.
