Head of the ROC: “We had no illusions about the performance of our team at the Olympic Games. All IOC decisions since February 2022 have been anti-Russian in nature.

Head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov said the organization was under no illusion that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) would allow Russia’s strongest athletes to compete at the 2024 Olympics.

At the end of March, the IOC announced recommendations for the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions. Recommendations include individual admission, neutral status, banning participation in team sports, and banning the participation of athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the SVO.

— We had no illusions about the performance prospects of our centralized Olympic team at the Olympic Games. Unfortunately, our Lausanne colleagues have chosen the camp of political conflict and all the IOC decisions since February 2022 have been anti-Russian in nature. We are confident that the attitude towards Russian sport will definitely be restored. As we return to full participation in international competitions and the Olympic Games, our national teams must be extremely competitive. It is necessary to deliberately prepare for it now,” Pozdnyakov said at a meeting of the Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sport as part of the forum “Russia is a sports power” in Perm.

From October 19 to 22, the international sports forum “Russia is a sports power” will take place in Perm.
