Usik: I have a desire to box, but let’s be realistic: I have very little left in big sport

The Ukrainian champion is already seriously thinking about retiring from his career

World heavyweight champion according to WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO Alexander Usik shared his thoughts about the future and his own career.

“Every day I think about my future, about boxing, about life, about a big fight. At some point, going to bed after prayer, I thought: Why am I thinking about this? If I think about something or wait, it doesn’t work. You just need to do what you are doing at the moment, but think about the big thing that awaits you ahead. But I still think about boxing every day, about my career, which is at a good stage.”

“I have a desire to box, to train, but let’s be realistic: I think that I have very little left in big sport. “I’m coming to a point where it’s time to think about another type of activity that I will do after the end of my professional career.”

Oleksandr Usyk, in his last fight on August 26 in Wroclaw, defeated Briton Daniel Dubois by technical knockout in the ninth round, once again defending his championship belts.

With a high probability, next winter the Ukrainian, who will turn 37 in January, will have a unification fight for the title of the absolute heavyweight division against WBC title holder Tyson Fury. At the end of September, the parties signed a corresponding contract. The fight is planned to take place on December 23 or January 2024 in Saudi Arabia.

It is planned that the exact date of the event will be announced after the fight of the “Gypsy King” with ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou, which will take place on October 28 in Saudi Arabia.
