Head of the Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR) Elena Vyalbe said Russian sport needs new champions, but the country faces a global problem: the lack of modern infrastructure in most regions.
On Friday, as part of the forum “Russia – a sports power”, a round table “Projects for the development and popularization of winter sports” will be held.
— People don’t become great under pressure; a person’s desire prevails. Previously, in all snowy regions there were ski lessons, but now it is rare. I am responsible for elite sports. I need us to have new champions – new Vyalbe, Smetanin, Zimyatov, Bolshunov, Nepryaev. But skiing today faces a challenge: the lack of infrastructure.
There are very few regions where the routes are well lit, and the material and technical base is also outdated. The school I arrived at, nothing has changed. Even the skis are the same ones I skied on. Of course, children cannot train in such conditions. This is a global problem for the entire country. If the most important figures in the region are interested in the development of sports, then, of course, something will be done there, but we do not have much of this in the country, ”Vyalbe said at the forum.
From October 19 to 22, the international sports forum “Russia is a sports power” will take place in Perm.
