Murcia police arrest man who drove his car into cycling world champion Alexander Valverde and his teammates during training, according to Marca.
The incident happened on Saturday afternoon on a stretch of the highway between Alcantarilla and Javali Viejo in the province of Murcia. The driver hit a Spaniard and two other cyclists and left the scene of an accident. Valverde was injured and taken to hospital. According to initial information, the 42-year-old athlete escaped serious injuries.
According to the source, the suspect himself came to the police station to confess his act. The 69-year-old man was taken into custody.
Valverde is the champion (2018) and multiple winner of the group racing world championships, overall winner of the Vuelta Grand Tour 2009.
