Figure skater Ivan Boukine and coach Katharina Gerboldt in a conversation with , they told how their working tandem was formed.
Ivan: Katarina Alexandrovna Gerboldt invited me to work with her group. Honestly, I want to say that I am incredibly grateful to him for this. I changed my mind about coaching, it’s a great pleasure. Today there are competitions of this level for young children, they are so big that I had no less fun than those of the Russian national skating team. I am so delighted and full of energy. Being a coach is so inspiring and uplifting.
— How did Ivan become a coach in your group?
Katarine: I have known Ivan since childhood, I remember him when he was very young. Naturally, I always watched him and how he skated. By the way, my favorite couple. When I found out what was going on with Sasha [Степановой] break, and so that Ivan could consider working with us, I called him immediately.
Ivan: I responded with pleasure, I was very interested in trying. I have always been adamant about being a coach, I didn’t really want to work as one before. When Katya called me, I thought: “Let me try and see if it’s interesting or not.” And I loved it so much!
— How do you combine it with training?
Ivan: I arranged everything very conveniently. “I have time to train, after my training I will work with a wonderful group, people and athletes,” the skater told .
Ivan Bukin and Alexandra Stepanova are several times European ice dancing champions.
