Figure skater Kondratyuk: “My main motivation is competition”

Figure skater Mark Kondratyuk after participating in the Russian Grand Prix in Omsk, he said his main motivation was to compete.

On Sunday, the Olympic champion from Beijing in the team tournament received 170.53 points for his free program in Omsk and is second when he remains the last participant to perform. After the short program, the 20-year-old skater was in eighth place.

— You played a lot in off-season shows. Is it difficult to combine this with competitions?

– It’s a double-edged sword. As for performing, I really love performing. Whether it’s a competition or a show. This is why I train and play sports. These emotions, impressions, experiences are incomparable to anything. They only exist here and now – while I’m exercising. It’s only a few years of life. Therefore, I want to enjoy all this to the fullest and carry it into my future life.

— To what extent does the program “Ode to Joy” match your character?

— If you choose between two programs, this one is closer to me. I am rather a positive person. I really wanted this music. I hope I can edit it better, with more emotion. But all the strength I had at that moment, I put into the rental.

— Are you worried about your health?

– Everything is fine.

—Where do you find the motivation? How long will this last?

– It seems to me that I have already answered this question. I really enjoy performing on stage. This is my motivation. I understand why this question is asked. Competition is why I play sports. If the circumstances are like this now, then I play here. It’s a cool arena, cool competitions. Apart from the fact that only Russian athletes compete here, and not those from other countries, nothing has changed. If the main goal is like mine, then I don’t see any problem with motivation. Can I change the circumstances somehow? No.

— What is your goal for the season?

— There is a sporting objective, but I will not express it. I’m trying to contact her. So, enjoy the sport, ”reports the correspondent of , according to Kondratyuk’s words.

The second stage of the Russian Figure Skating Grand Prix will take place in Omsk on October 21-22.
