Linares announces retirement after defeat to Catterall

The former world champion is pleased with his performances

Former world champion in several weight categories Jorge Linares (47-9, 29 KOs) announced his retirement from his professional career.

“Happy, very happy, I don’t care about losing. I am a three-time world champion. I’m a very lucky guy. So to end like this is amazing; it is very important for me. I’m really excited to be here and show myself who I am and how I finish the fight by decision. It’s important for me”.

“I came here to enjoy. Yes, I made everyone happy. This is a good thing. Yes, this was the last battle.

I love boxing, I love going to the gym. I can help coach Ismael Salas in the gym. Maybe I can open a gym. I have many possibilities. I can work in television and do whatever I want.”

Linares lost to Jack Catterall for the WBA Intercontinental junior welterweight title. The Briton won by unanimous decision.

The 38-year-old Venezuelan is a former opponent of Vasily Lomachenko. Linares successfully defended the WBA and The Ring titles three times before being defeated by the Ukrainian. Jorge has lost his last four fights, including his fight with Devin Haney for the WBC lightweight title.
