Dovbik’s double helped Girona to a strong victory over Almeria

Girona won a brilliant victory at home over Almeria in a productive match of the 10th round Spanish Championship – 5:2.

The start was discouraging for the Catalan club – by the 24th minute the visitors took a two-goal lead after Leo Baptistao’s brace. But then Artem Dovbik got down to business.

Girona organized the first goal without the participation of the Ukrainian – Ivan Martin scored from a pass from Aleisha Garcia. But just two minutes later, Artem played with Daley Blind and hit the opponent’s goalkeeper with a shot from the goalkeeper’s corner – 2:2. And in the 43rd minute, the forward of the Ukrainian national team scored a double – he went into the penalty area, beat two people and placed the ball under the far post.

Dovbik was replaced midway through the second half. Soon Girona strengthened its advantage – Savio scored a goal. And in the end, the experienced Stuani, who replaced the Ukrainian, brought the score to a devastating one.

Another Ukrainian football player from Girona, Viktor Tsygankov, was not included in the squad for this game due to injury.

With five goals, Dovbik shares 3rd-9th places in the list of Primera scorers, behind only Jude Bellingham (8) and Antoine Griezmann (7). Artem also has two assists.

The victory allowed the Catalans to overtake Atlético Madrid and become equal on points (25) with the leading Real Madrid. Almeria is at the bottom of the La Liga standings, remaining without a win and conceding the most goals.

In the next round, Girona will host Celta Vigo on October 27. Almeria will play at home against Las Palmas a day later.
