Lucescu: I was unable to build a team in a short period of time that could withstand our opponents in the Ukrainian championship

An experienced specialist criticizes his wards, but at the same time does not relieve himself of responsibility.

Head coach of Kyiv Dynamo Mircea Lucescu talked in detail about the reasons for the home defeat from SK Dnepr-1 and problems (including systemic ones) in the game of his team.

“I don’t make decisions on transfers, I coach players. Some clubs may be buying new players, quality foreign players, but we really haven’t signed anyone and therefore we are playing with the players that we currently have at our disposal.”

“As for the match itself, it’s hard to start the game with mistakes. Dnepr-1 has a good team with a well-coordinated game both in defense and in attack, which was well prepared for the match against us. And we started the game with two mistakes. But we dominated, attacked, created chances. Unfortunately, our players today were not angry enough to effectively resist this opponent.”

“The problem is that we have lost 11 key players who were the leaders of our team and played a key role. Now we have 5-6 young football players with no experience, they need to learn.”

“The problem is with me: I couldn’t build a team in such a short period of time that could withstand our opponents in the Ukrainian championship. Besides, our luck had run out. We lost Shaparenko for a long time, and then also Yarmolenko. Popov only recently recovered. Finally, Karavaev served his disqualification today.”

“Our players today did not show the level we want to see from them. We are creating a new team, but the main thing is that too many mistakes were made today. However, I do not absolve myself of responsibility.”

“In the situation with the missed goal, Sirota, Vivcharenko and Buschan did not understand each other. But missing out is not such a big problem. The problem is that we couldn’t score.”

“Brazhko very rarely returned to defense; he was constantly 20-25 meters further than required. Today he returned to defense only once. The rest of the time he was away from our penalty area, making mistakes under pressure, thereby creating opportunities for the opponent.”

“Today all our players did not have the required level of concentration and composure. Yes, we constantly played under pressure, but the main problem was a large number of technical defects. That’s why we lost. We have good ball control, good passing, but this is not enough: we need to finish attacks.”

Let us remind you that Dynamo lost to Dnepr-1 at home in the match of the 11th round of the Ukrainian Premier League, failing to score for the first time in the domestic season. The Kiev team missed the only goal in the 13th minute from Alexey Gutsulyak.

The defeat was the third for Lucescu’s team in 8 league matches and the sixth in 12 matches of the season as a whole. With 15 points, Dynamo is in 7th place, but in terms of lost points it is a potential championship leader, along with Shakhtar.

In the next round, the white-blues will play against Kolos on October 28.
