Figure skater Drobyazko filed a complaint against the decree of the Lithuanian President on deprivation of citizenship

Figure skater Margarita Drobiazko said she had filed a complaint against the Lithuanian President’s decree to deprive her of her citizenship.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda previously signed a decree depriving World Championship bronze medalist figure skater Margarita Drobiazko of Lithuanian citizenship.

“Earlier, I have already described in detail my position and the reasons why I consider the decision to deprive me of Lithuanian citizenship to be illegal and unfair. I know that I am supported by the majority of Lithuanians who, during my thirty years of Lithuanian citizenship, have become as close to me as those who live in my historical homeland – in Russia, who also support Povilas and me. in the current situation.

Today, I am happy to say that I have found the strength to fight for what I consider right and important. I filed a complaint against the decree of the President of the Republic of Lithuania depriving me of Lithuanian citizenship and my complaint was accepted by the Vilnius District Administrative Court. The court ordered the President of the Republic of Lithuania and his services to provide documents confirming the charges against me no later than October 30, 2023. Then, within the framework of the current legislation, the case will be considered by the tribunal.

I believe in justice and fairness, which I consider a duty to defend not only for myself, but also for Lithuanian citizens who, like me, can become victims of unworthy political games,” Drobyazko wrote on his social networks.

Drobyazko was born in Moscow, but after the collapse of the USSR she began competing for Lithuania with Povilas Vanagas. Together they won bronze at the World Championships.
