President of the Ukrainian Paralympic Committee: We have collected a quota of European countries to prevent a “neutrality procedure” for murderers

Valery Sushkevich called the main task the neutralization of the political and corruption influence of Russia on the IPC delegates

The president Paralympic Committee of Ukraine Valery Sushkevich said that Ukraine united delegations from a number of European countries in order to prevent the introduction of a procedure for obtaining neutral status for athletes from aggressor countries.

“We must focus all our efforts on ensuring that the entire civilized Paralympic world does not allow the so-called neutrality procedure, which allows murderers, rapists and supporters of murder and violence into the Paralympic Games in Paris.”

“We have combined the necessary quota of European countries, which requires the convening of an extraordinary general assembly of the European Paralympic Committee, at which issues related to the procedure for admitting Russia’s neutrality should be worked out. And after Russia recognized that it influences the International Paralympic Committee, the convening of the IPC General Assembly to decide on the removal of the Russian Paralympic Committee from participation in the Paralympic Games in Paris.”

“The neutrality procedure will be adopted not by the IPC General Assembly, but by the Council, and the EPC must say the main word here. Now it is necessary to neutralize the political and corruption influence of Russia through its embassies on the delegates of the IPC and YPC. It seems to me that a lot depends on the consciousness of the leaders of different countries.”

Earlier, the General Assembly of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) admitted athletes from Russia to the 2024 Paralympics. The Assembly voted to partially suspend Russia’s membership for a period of two years due to violations of a number of constitutional obligations of the Russian committee.

At the upcoming Games in Paris, as well as at the world championships and regional competitions, Russians will be able to compete in a neutral status and only in individual competitions, without teams. Athletes will only be admitted if they comply with the conditions of participation as published by the IPC.

The 2024 Paralympics will take place from August 28 to September 8 in Paris.
