Olympic silver medalist Alexandre Enbert believes that the figure skater Alena Kostornaya It’s still not easy to fight for high places in pair skating.
On Sunday, Kostornaya and Georgy Kunitsa performed a free program at a tournament in Omsk and received 124.71 points. In total, the couple scored 192.77 points and took fourth place. After the performance, the skater said she was unhappy with how her performance in the short program was evaluated, adding that due to the judges’ controversial scores, figure skating is “sinking into a swamp”.
“They are progressing at a good pace and are really improving from tournament to tournament. If we take their summer performance at a non-competitive tournament, and then on the Russian Grand Prix stage, we will see huge progress. They fought for the podium, it’s a great result. I really like the way they skate – with energy, fun, enthusiasm.
Of course, the scores are shocking. Alena is used to being a winner and setting trends in women’s singles skating, she is used to fighting only for first places and for leadership in the team. It’s probably hard for her to catch up. I would just like to wish the guys not to pay attention to the grades for now. They are doing a great job and I am sure that if they maintain this pace of progress, the audiences will only please soon,” Enbert was quoted as saying by Gazeta.ru.
