Maguchikh: We need to continue to say that the war is not over and Russia continues to kill civilians

The athlete said that at competitions she is more often asked about the war than about her sports career.

Ukrainian athlete Yaroslav Maguchikh said that at international competitions she continues to remind the world about the war that Russia started.

“There is a lot of attention to Ukrainian athletes. It especially grows when Ukrainians compete for awards. Of course, everyone asks about the war, and even for me this season, when there were some conferences at the stages of the Diamond Leagues, many questions were not about my sports career, not about plans, but about the war in Ukraine.”

“There are those who still don’t know how serious it is, what the scale of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine is, and when you tell them this, they sit in shock. We must continue to talk, continue to communicate with the media and explain that the war is not over yet, Russia continues to fire at us, kill civilians, we need to talk about this.”

Maguchikh was one of the three finalists in the category of the best athlete in Europe. The Ukrainian also claims to be the best athlete in the world in 2023.

In the early hours of February 24, 2022, Russia launched rocket and air strikes on most Ukrainian cities and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The Russian war against Ukraine has continued for the 607th day.
