Cycling World Champion Alexander Valverde was hit by a car in Spain during training, reported by Opinion of Murcia .
The incident happened on Saturday afternoon on a stretch of the highway between Alcantarilla and Javali Viejo in the province of Murcia. The driver hit a Spaniard and two other cyclists and left the scene of an accident.
Police and an ambulance arrived at the scene. Valverde was injured and taken to hospital. According to initial information, the 42-year-old athlete escaped serious injuries.
The Movistar team, for which the cyclist plays, said in a statement that he had no broken bones or dangerous injuries.
He will remain under medical supervision for 24 hours and will be discharged later. His partner is doing well as well,” the report said.
Valverde is the champion (2018) and multiple winner of the group racing world championships, overall winner of the Vuelta Grand Tour 2009.
