Fourth consecutive victory for Maximov’s team
Dnepr-1 won an away victory over Vorskla in the rescheduled 1st round match Ukrainian Premier League – 3:2.
The guests took the lead at the very start – Alexander Filippov scored the second goal for his new club. At the end of the half, Ruslan Stepanyuk equalized the chances, but immediately Alexey Gutsulyak restored Dnepryan’s advantage.
Soon after the break, Gutsulyak scored a double. To the credit of the Poltava team, they did not give up and at the very end they managed to get one goal back – Ms. Stepanyuk scored from the penalty spot.
Yuri Maksimov, at the head of Dnepr-1, won his fourth victory in a row. In this match, the 54-year-old coach faced off against the team he himself coached from 2019 to 2022, as well as his long-time partner in Werder Bremen and the Ukrainian national team, Viktor Skripnik.
Having scored 21 points, SK Dnepr-1 was level with Shakhtar in the standings. Like the Miners, Maksimov’s team is two points behind the leading Krivbass, having a game in hand. The Poltava team remained ninth with 13 points.
On October 28, Dnepr-1 will play away against Krivbass. Vorskla will host Metalist 1925 the next day.
