The most popular cycling race, the Tour de France, starts in 2024 in Florence and ends in Nice.
This is the first Italian departure in the history of the Tour (June 29) and his first arrival in Nice (July 21).
In Italy, the Tour peloton will notably visit Florence, Rimini, Cesenatico, Bologna, Piacenza, Turin, Pirenolo, but the 4th stage of the race will end in France.
Traditionally, the Tour de France ends on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, but in 2024, in order to avoid disrupting preparations for the Olympic Games, it was decided to move the finish to Nice. This is the first time in history that the Tour will end so far from the French capital. For the first time in 35 years, it was decided to complete this Grand Tour with an individual time trial. Its length on the Monaco-Nice route will be 34 km.
The first “trial” will take place during the 7th stage (25 km). The course has eight stages with a sprint interchange; the ninth stage will include sections on gravel.
The total elevation gain during the Tour stages will be greater than that of the 2024 Giro d’Italia. In total, riders will cover 3,492 km during the 2024 Tour de France.
