“There are many competitions in Russia that are no worse in importance and competition than abroad” – skier Zavyalov

Alexander Zavyalov, multiple Olympic medalist and world champion, member of the Presidium of the Russian Ski Racing Federation, told that there are enough cross-country skiing competitions in Russia that are not inferior to foreign tournaments in terms of importance and competition.

On Wednesday, International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) board member Erik Röste said the decision to suspend the Russians and Belarusians following an FIS board meeting had been extended for the upcoming season.

— All the questions about the date of our return are there (at the FIS). I would like there to be international competitions for us. But in Russia there are many competitions that are no worse in importance and competition than abroad,” Zavyalov told .

Russians and Belarusians have been suspended from FIS competitions since March 2022 due to the situation in Ukraine.

At the end of March this year, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced recommendations for the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions. Recommendations include individual admission, neutral status, banning participation in team sports, and banning the participation of athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the SVO.
