Olympic cross-country ski champion Alexander Legkov told that he calmly accepted the decision of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) to extend the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes.
On Wednesday, FIS Council member Erik Röste said the decision to suspend the Russians and Belarusians following a FIS Council meeting had been extended for the upcoming season.
“I accept the decision without emotion, calmly, because no one expected anything else. Let’s start some cool competitions and everything will be fine. There is an incentive to compete. Young people grow up watching our best athletes. We will race and train together, seek motivation during internal competitions and hold the strongest skiers to a high level,” Legkov told .
Russians and Belarusians have been suspended from FIS competitions since March 2022 due to the situation in Ukraine.
At the end of March this year, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced recommendations for the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions. Recommendations include individual admission, neutral status, banning participation in team sports, and banning the participation of athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the SVO.
