The removal of Vasta from the PFL championships is the first sign. Everyone is to blame: the club, the city, the region and even the UAF

In the 2023/24 season, Ukrainian professional football lost its first club

“This club turned out to be of no use to anyone: the city, the region, the UAF and even the fans” is the key message about Vasta.

After numerous requests from fans and residents of Nikolaev, Vast/Nikolaev 1920 officially announced its withdrawal from the PFL Second League competition. On Thursday, October 26, the Professional Football League of Ukraine officially announced.

Very quickly, all messages were “cleaned up” on the club’s Instagram account, then a post appeared that “all information about Vasta will now be in the media, and this account belongs exclusively to Nikolaev 1920 and the children’s school,” but this is not the end: subsequently there were Even these two messages were deleted.

Such inconstancy is a key feature of Nikolaev 1920/Vast this season. This team did not have any big victories; instead, the 2023/24 season turned out to be the most full of scandals for the team:

  • a loud change of name to “Nikolaev 1920”, which never became official;
  • lack of contact with fans and the ultras fan movement;
  • termination of contracts with several players due to wage arrears;
  • lack of a team of doctors and massage therapists on staff, as well as termination of cooperation with the press attache;
  • financial difficulties turned into a technical defeat 0:3 in the match with Skala (official absence from the match);
  • the director of the club (on many resources he is also the sports director, the financial director, and even the president) Anton Shimanets held one (!) online conference in which he did not answer a large number of questions, sending the interviewer to other “responsible” people;
  • one (!) victory per season and constant suspicions of “dirty play”;
  • as the finishing point, after dozens of requests from fans and the same number of critical arrows on social networks – withdrawal from the championship.

At the same time, PFL treated Vast more than tolerantly. They met the club halfway in everything – they allowed them to play in several locations in other regions, constantly postponed matches and persuaded their opponents to meet them halfway. Vast himself simply didn’t give a damn about everything and withdrew before the end of the first round, thus nullifying all the efforts of his rivals and now former colleagues in the League.

However, the removal of Vast is not the key, and the question is not only for the club’s management.

Let’s assume that Vast is almost a debutant, in his second year in the country’s professional football. How did it happen that the UAF allowed M-1920/Vast into the season without guarantees for its completion?

And did Kiev really take any steps to help the front-line region? Is it important for you to show only flags, statements of thousands of vice-presidents and advisers in support of Pavelko, and not to do one really useful thing for the return of professional football?

Has the city or region worked on this? Would you like to be able to be proud of a club that can function and live during a full-scale war?

We all demand something, invest something and believe in something. Therefore the result is very simple.

For fans, stop entertaining yourself with illusions. Forget everything that happened before.

Vastu/Nikolaev 1920 – forget the path to professional football for 5-10 years. And even if you have the opportunity and finances in a year, you must be punished for this spit at the Nikolaev fans.

UAF and all other “big” organizations – finally decide what you want, what you can and what you do. Your words are so radically different from your actions that it looks like a marriage between Shakira and Gerard Pique.

But stop. Do you know what will happen? It’s not the right time. A convenient excuse for everything that happens.

Thank you. For the mess.
