Honored coach of the USSR in figure skating Tatyana Tarasova commented on the words Alexandra Troussova who said she doesn’t view moving from one coach to another as a betrayal.
The figure skater herself has changed coaches several times: in 2020, she went from Eteri Tutberidze HAS Evgeny Plushenko a year later she returned to Khrustalny and in 2022 she joined Svetlana Sokolovskaya’s group.
— We cannot say that an athlete, by leaving a coach, betrays him. But this cannot be said. On the one hand, of course, we must not forget the many years of work and efforts of the coach to make an athlete a champion. But on the other hand, everyone changes coaches when someone wants to change something in their work – they want to work with another specialist, improve, follow different programs and simply get acquainted with different work . This is very offensive to the coach who led from the beginning, but if it happens within the framework of normal human conversation and gratitude, it cannot be called betrayal. But unfortunately, this is rare. I have also welcomed athletes who left their coaches. They were our athletes, Italian, French, Japanese and American. Such a practice exists in the world: when Trusova left Tutberidze for Plushenko, and then returned, Eteri behaved remarkably. She took it without words, it’s a rare case. I was impressed. How could you come to such an agreement with yourself to accept it so silently?! It was the action of a great, intelligent coach. And the girl was just walking around. It seems to me that Trusova should have stayed with Tutberidze. It’s a shame she didn’t find the strength to come back. It appeared from nowhere and disappeared from nowhere,” quotes Tarasova, Sport24.
