Briggs: I used to bet on Usyk to win in close combat, but now I choose Fury

According to the American, the Ukrainian champion no longer throws as many punches as before

Former World Heavyweight Champion Shannon Briggs was quite clear in his forecast for the fight for the undisputed heavyweight title between the WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO world champion Alexander Usik and holder of the WBC heavyweight belt Tyson Fury.

“When Usyk first moved up to heavyweight, I thought he was unstoppable because he threw so many punches. He’s gotten used to the weight now, but in his last fight against another guy from Great Britain, Usyk wasn’t throwing as many punches as he used to. That worries me. As you get bigger and older, you don’t throw as many punches. This was his main trump card. Now he has lost it. It’s finished”.

“Now I choose Fury. I used to bet on Usyk to win in a close fight, but now he doesn’t throw enough punches. I don’t know if Fury will win early, but it will definitely be a beating because Usyk doesn’t throw enough punches anymore. He hit a lot when he came up from cruiserweight, but those days are in the past.”

Let us remember that the 51-year-old American had previously given preference to Tyson in a fight with Alexander, noting the combination of size and dexterity in the arsenal of the “Gypsy King”.

Today, October 28, Fury will have a 10-round fight with former UFC champion Francis Ngannou in the Saudi capital of Riyadh. The WBC granted Tyson special permission to fight the former UFC champion. It is expected that immediately after this fight the final date for the unification fight between Fury and Usyk will be confirmed.
