Ukrainians won the decisive battles for third place in their weight categories
Ukrainian karatekas Andrey Zaplitny And Valery Chebotar won bronze medals at World Championship 2023which passes into Budapest.
Zaplitny won the first four fights in the up to 75 kg category, but lost to the number one in the world ranking, Egyptian Abdelaziz Abdalla, in the semifinals.
In the decisive battle for third place, Andrey faced American Thomas Scott. Their confrontation ended with an equal score of 5:5, but the Ukrainian received an advantage according to the “first uncontested point” rule.
Chebotar lost to another Egyptian, Youssef Badawi, in the fourth round, but got the opportunity to compete for bronze through repechage bouts. In the final fight, Valery defeated the “neutral” athlete Eduard Gasparyan with a minimal score (1:0).
Zaplitny became a World Championship medalist for the first time in his career. For Chebotar this is the second world championship award. In 2018 in Madrid he became a silver medalist.
We would like to remind you that the “bronze” final of the World Cup will also be played by Ukrainian Anzhelika Terlyuga, who scandalously lost to Bulgarian Ivet Goranova in the semi-finals.
The 2023 World Championships in Budapest started on October 24 and today, October 28, entered its decisive stage.
