The winning goal for Xabi Alonso’s team was the visiting goalkeeper’s own goal
Bayer won at home against Freiburg in the match of the 9th round of the German Bundesliga – 2:1.
Pharmacists opened the scoring towards the end of the first half of the match – Florian Wirtz made a great solo pass. The score was doubled after an hour of play – the ball, after a shot from Jonas Hofmann, hit the post and flew into the goal from the back of goalkeeper Noah Atubolu.
The guests did not give up. Gulde scored with a header after a successful set piece. Later there were chances on both sides, but in the end Xabi Alonso’s team managed to defend the winning score.
The victory allowed Bayer to return to first place in the Bundesliga. In nine rounds, Alonso’s team lost only two points. Bayern are two points behind. Freiburg remained eighth with 13 points.
In the next round, Bayer will play away against Hoffenheim. Before this, the Pharmacists will meet Sandhausen in the Cup.
