Figure skater Khromykh talks about her performance at the Krasnoyarsk Grand Prix: “I will never have the same experience as before. But what should I cry about, or what?

Figure skater Maya Khromykh spoke after the free program of the third stage of the Russian Grand Prix in Krasnoyarsk.

On Sunday, Khromykh scored 131.16 points in the free skate and 193.22 points overall. She took fifth place overall.

— It was very difficult to play here. You get used to competitions for a long time and you quickly lose the habit… I thought it would be much easier, that I would come, I would listen and I would skate like before… But it will no longer be like before. It was no longer possible to skate like before. There are new things in my head that I don’t know how to deal with. Everything is resolved with time and training.

Overall, I rode normally, but I didn’t have enough concentration to finish. I started to invent something, remembering my old mistakes… So, I left and landed on my head. But why should I cry now? I cry in my room. I’m happy to be here today, even if I fall, even if I struggle, but I’m here. It’s good that I’m not sitting at home, but playing,” Khromykh said, as quoted by Sport24.

For 17-year-old Maya Khromykh, these competitions were the first in the last 1.5 years – the athlete was recovering from a serious injury.
