Athletistic / Athletics. Ukrainian world champion athlete Yaroslava Maguchikh spoke about the message she received from Olympic high jump champion, Russian Maria Lasitskene.
“After the World Championships in Oregon, I got a message from Lasitskene. She wrote to me, but you know, there was this message: ‘Sorry I didn’t write sooner. I thought you don’t need it, why do you need it. My support and my words are optional.” So I sat down and thought: “Write to me after the World Championships, when I gave so many interviews in which I said that there was no still no message from him.”
I think that’s what she reacted to. Because many media then started writing that there was no reaction from him, even though we played together and competed in the same sector. And only after that she wrote to me.
It would have been different if she had written to us in February 2022. Then many girls were sitting in bomb shelters, me too. And so – there was no reaction. She first wrote a letter to Thomas Bach. This was before she wrote to me. There was more about how the Russians can’t perform now and that’s it.
She supported me as an athlete and as the girl she was competing against. But then she wrote: “I know you won’t understand me. » I simply lost this desire, whereas even earlier I expected something from her. After the World Championships in Oregon, I no longer needed it. I just told everyone and gave interviews to everyone, and only after all that she wrote to me. I had this feeling,” Maguchikh said in a YouTube interview.
Yaroslava Moguchikh, before the start of the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene (USA), said that Maria Lasitskene was no longer her idol.
In his letter to Thomas Bach, Lasitskene openly criticized the IOC president for his organization’s recommendations to international federations to exclude Russian athletes from participating in competitions.
