Fury won by split decision: two judges gave him the victory with scores of 95-94 and 96-93, and the third – 95-94 in favor of Ngannou
Legendary boxer, former world champion in eight weight categories Manny Pacquiao said that the judges’ decision in the fight between WBC heavyweight title holder Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou was fair.
“It was a very exciting fight. Amazing presentation, amazing performance. “I was shocked when Fury went down, but it’s great that he recovered and continued to fight until the end of the tenth round.”
“It was a very close fight. It’s impossible to say for sure. In my opinion, this is a good judge’s decision. Fury winning by split decision is the right thing to do.”
Fury defeated Ngannou to win the Riyadh title. The fight, according to boxing rules, lasted all the allotted 10 rounds, as a result of which two judges gave the victory to Fury, one to Ngannou. In the third round, Francis knocked down Tyson, but the Briton managed to return to the fight.
Legendary former world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis called his compatriot’s victory “lackluster.” Promoter Eddie Hearn, like Chisora, believes Ngannou deserved to win.
Fury intends to fight his next fight with WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO world champion Alexander Usik. The British promoter Frank Warren said that he cannot yet name the exact date of the fight between Usyk and Fury. The Briton suffered a cut and will need time to recover.
