Malik Scott: I don’t think Ngannou won the fight, but he did very well

Ngannou lost to Fury via split decision

Malik Scottcoach of ex-world heavyweight champion Deontay Wildercommented on the fight of the WBC belt holder Tyson Fury with ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou.

“In my opinion, Ngannou performed much better than most people expected from him. But we need to look at things globally. In the second half, Fury controlled the fight with his jab.”

“Ngannou really couldn’t do anything with him. He went back to his corner and the coach told him, “You can’t let him jab like that.” I think he performed very well. I don’t think Ngannou won the fight, but he did really well.”

“I think Ngannou gets so much praise because it was his first fight. I wanted him to win, but I don’t think Ngannou won this fight. My prediction came true.”

On the night of October 29 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Fury defeated Ngannou and won the Riyadh champion title. The fight, according to boxing rules, lasted all the allotted 10 rounds, following which Fury won by a split decision: two judges gave him the victory with scores of 95–94 and 96–93, and the third – 95–94 in favor of Ngannou. In the third round, Francis knocked down Tyson, but the Briton managed to return to the fight.

Legendary former world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis called his compatriot’s victory “lackluster.” Promoter Eddie Hearn, like Chisora, believes Ngannou deserved to win.

Fury intends to fight his next fight with WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO world champion Alexander Usik. The British promoter Frank Warren said that he cannot yet name the exact date of the fight between Usyk and Fury. The Briton suffered a cut and will need time to recover.

Most likely, the unification match will take place in early 2024. At the same time, the Ukrainian champion insists that, according to the contract, the fight should take place in December.
