Athletistic / Athletics. Olympic high jump champion, Russian Maria Lasitskene, revealed the text of the letter she sent to Ukrainian Yaroslava Maguchikh in 2022 after the World Championships in Eugene (USA). Previously, Maguchikh admitted that she was upset by Lasitskene’s lack of reaction to the start of a special military operation.

“Yaroslava, hello! I congratulate you and Tatyana Stepanova on your World Cup medal! You are incredible and I admire your courage.

I am very sorry that the relations between our countries influenced your attitude towards me. I didn’t allow myself that after Tokyo and I won’t allow myself that now. Every day I think that everything is fine with you and your loved ones, and for some reason I thought you understood this (knowing me and my coach for so many years). But of course, it’s not obligatory, since I’ve never said it out loud.

Maria Lasitskene wrote a letter of support to Ukrainian Maguchikh after the 2022 World Cup

Forgive me for my weakness, I couldn’t find the words, I was afraid that my “how are you?” will make you even angrier. Since the answer to this question is clear. And I was sure that nothing I said would ease your experiences and your suffering. I can’t do anything about this ###### (situation) and it breaks my heart.

I’m not justifying myself in any way, I just want you to at least try to understand me.

I made a mistake, but at that moment I thought my words wouldn’t help you in any way.

But silence does not equal consent.

I don’t think you will understand me… I reread all this and understand that words do not make anything easier,” says the letter, the text of which is quoted by Sports.ru.
