The 2022 world champion left behind Ederson, Buna, Courtois and Ter Stegen
Aston Villa and Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez became a laureate Yashin Trophy – prize best goalkeeper 2023.
In the voting, the Argentine was ahead of such status contenders as Moroccan Yassin Bounou (Seville/Al-Hilal), Belgian Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid), Brazilian Ederson (Manchester City) and German Marc-Andre Ter Stegen (Barcelona).
31-year-old Emiliano was the reserve goalkeeper of London Arsenal for many years and regularly went on loan. In 2020, he moved to Aston Villa on a permanent basis, for which he managed to play 125 matches (43 clean sheets) in all tournaments.
As part of the Argentina national team, Martinez became the winner and best goalkeeper of the 2022 World Cup.
Previously, Emiliano was recognized as the best goalkeeper of 2022 according to the FIFA Football Awards.
The winner of the best goalkeeper category was announced as part of the award ceremony Ballon d’Or 2023which is currently ongoing at the Chatelet Theater in Paris.
