Australia withdraws bid to host 2034 World Cup

Saudi Arabia will be the only candidate

Australia refused to submit an application for World Cup 2034.

The Australian Football Association analyzed the country’s chances and decided to focus on other tournaments. Instead of the World Cup, the Australians intend to host the 2026 Women’s Asian Cup, and then the 2029 Club World Cup.

The only candidate for the 2034 World Cup remains Saudi Arabia. It was reported that Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, along with Australia, as well as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, were planning to make a joint bid, but these plans did not materialize.

Argentina won their third title at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The world championship in 2026 will be held in three countries – the USA, Canada and Mexico.

The main part of the 2030 World Cup will be held in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, except for the three opening matches, which in honor of the centenary of the history of the world championships will be held in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay.

Ukraine was previously included in the joint bid with the two Iberian countries, but was replaced by Morocco in March. The reason is serious destruction of Ukraine’s infrastructure during a full-scale war with the Russian Federation and criminal cases against UAF President Andrei Pavelko.
