Alexander Bolshunov Sr., father of three-time Olympic cross-country ski champion Alexandra Bolshunova has criticized athletes who change their sporting citizenship due to their ineligibility on the international stage.
“The athletes themselves will decide what to do now. Some people are even willing to compete for another country just to be competitive. Sasha will never do that. Changing citizenship for the sake of a medal – I can’t understand that. In his head too, I’m sure.
But under no circumstances should we betray the country. Sasha will find out on his own, he’s an adult. In this case, he doesn’t need anyone’s opinion. He definitely won’t do anything stupid,” Bolshunov Sr. said at the Championship.
Bolshunov, 26, is a three-time Olympic champion, world skiathlon champion, two-time World Cup winner, two-time winner of the Tour de Ski multi-day ski race.
