Edin Dzeko scored 10 goals in 10 league matches
Turkish Fenerbahce is the best club in Europe at the start of the season. In the Conference League, where Fener started from the second (!) qualifying round, the team has nine wins, with a goal difference of 29:5 and six matches in which the Canaries scored three or more goals. Thus, Zimbru received 9 goals from Fener in two matches, without scoring even once. Maribor and Twente – six each (they scored a goal each). In the group, Fenerbahçe beat Nordsjælland, Spartak from Trnava and Ludogorets with a total score of 8:3.
Is it all about money?
No. Fenerbahçe has a decent squad – Transfermarkt estimates it at 200 million euros, but not the most expensive in Turkey. For example, the cost of the Galatasaray roster is 236.5 million. But the third giant of Turkish football, Besiktas, is seriously behind: the cost of the Eagles’ squad is estimated at 130 million euros.
At the same time, last season, in terms of squad value, Fenerbache was almost nine million behind Galatasaray (202.6 versus 193), but in the end it lost eight points to its competitors at the finish line. Fener is currently two points ahead of Galatasaray.

One of the reasons for Fenerbahce’s successful start was the transfer of Bosnian forward Edin Dzeko from Inter. The 37-year-old striker has only two matches out of 10 in the championship without scoring goals – Ankaragucu was lucky (the forward had an assist in this match) and Instanbul Basaksehir (without scoring). Dzeko’s assets include a double against Gazisehir in the first round and a hat-trick in the match with Pendikspor in the 10th.
Dzeko shares first place in the dispute between the best snipers of the Turkish Super League along with Mauro Icardi. At the same time, the Galatasaray forward scored three out of 10 goals from the penalty spot. Polish midfielder Sebastian Szymanski scored 16 points in 19 matches (nine goals and seven assists in all tournaments).
Coach’s choice
Last season, Fenerbahçe was led by Portuguese star Jorze Jesus. But he did not complete the task, and the club’s management relied on Ismail Kartal, who gave the club more than 15 years as a player and coach of the youth and first teams.
