Alexander Bolshunov Sr., father of three-time Olympic cross-country ski champion Alexandra Bolshunova stressed the need for Russian athletes to return to international competitions with the national flag and anthem.
On October 25, International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) Council member Erik Röste announced that the decision to suspend the Russians and Belarusians following an FIS Council meeting had been extended for the coming season.
“It’s time for a great country like Russia to return with an anthem and a flag.” I don’t know how to do this. So far there is only talk, but no concrete action is in sight. Everyone should be in their place. And everyone, as I said before, must do their job, and do it as responsibly and efficiently as possible. In any case, issues related to the flag and anthem should be decided not by athletes, but by completely different people.
Why does everyone go everywhere except Russia? It’s humiliating ! They will cite doping, or something else. You have to go like everyone else. Enough already, we found ourselves without a flag or anthem for far-fetched reasons. The Russians are responsible everywhere. The Russian people take a long time to master themselves, but travel quickly. Victory will be ours. There is nothing to say here, there are no other options, ”Bolshunov Sr. said at the Championship.
At the end of March, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced recommendations for the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions.
Recommendations include individual admission, neutral status, banning participation in team sports, and banning the participation of athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the SVO. The decision regarding the Summer Olympics in Paris will be announced later. The IOC did not invite the ROC to the Games on the set date of July 26.
