“Athletes are the easiest people to blame.” Bolshunov’s father talks about playing in neutral status

Alexander Bolshunov Sr., father of three-time Olympic cross-country ski champion Alexandra Bolshunova spoke about his attitude towards the performances of Russian athletes in neutral status.

At the end of March, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced recommendations for the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions. Recommendations include individual admission, neutral status, banning participation in team sports, and banning the participation of athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the SVO. The decision regarding the Summer Olympics in Paris will be announced later. The IOC did not invite the ROC to the Games on the set date of July 26.

— Athletes must perform. The easiest way is to blame them and say that they are this and that, that they act in such conditions. I repeat that they choose this difficult path from childhood. They deny themselves a lot and are deprived of the opportunity to do their job,” Bolshunov Sr. said at the Championship.

Earlier, President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov said that he does not see among Russian athletes a single potential participant in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
