Senior coach of the Russian biathlon team Yuri Kaminsky appreciated the decision of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) to maintain the exclusion of Russians from international competitions, noting that the organization is headed by people from outside the “skiing” countries.
On October 25, FIS council member Erik Röste announced that the decision to suspend the Russians and Belarusians following a meeting of the organization’s council had been extended for the upcoming season.
— Recently, the FIS extended the suspension of Russians and Belarusians from international competitions. Everyone has long criticized the International Biathlon Union (IBU) for its anti-Russian stance, but it turns out that the FIS is not doing any better in this regard. Did this surprise you?
– It’s like that. It turns out that the situation is strange, both at the IBU and at the FIS. It is run by people who do not exactly represent “skiing” countries, particularly from Central Europe. The representation of purely skiing countries, even Scandinavian countries, has recently decreased. I’m not talking about the fact that the Russians were removed from office. This leads to the fact that political interests around sports become dominant,” Kaminsky quotes Metaratings.ru.
At the end of March, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced recommendations for the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions. These include individual admission, neutral status, banning participation in team sports, and banning participation of athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the SVO.
