Athletistic / Figure skating. World figure skating champion Maria Butyrskaya gave advice to Kamila Valieva regarding the suspension of the Russian national team from participation in international competitions.

“Russia, especially in women’s single skating, is the strongest school. I see a lot of talented girls who have great potential and desire. And there is enough competition in national competitions. But for to be world and European champion, to win the Grand Prix final is a slightly different level. Athletes always aspire to the highest. Everyone knows perfectly well that they can and must. But they don’t have the chance to do it. It seems to me that it makes everyone sad.

I would advise Kamila Valieva, who will make her debut this season at the fourth stage of the Kazan Grand Prix, not to stop, not to give up. This will definitely end. I don’t think the ban will last for decades. Many sports are already bringing our athletes back to competitions. Whoever can handle it now will shine in the near future on the international stage,” Butyrskaya said according to KP Sport.

Kamila Valieva is the 2022 European champion, as well as the Olympic champion of the 2022 Games in Beijing (China) in the team competitions.

The suspension of Russian figure skaters has been in effect since March 2022. The sanctions from the International Skating Union (ISU) are linked to the events in Ukraine.
