Genoa beat Reggiana in the Coppa Italia thanks to Malinowski’s assist

Ruslan entered the field in overtime and two minutes later made an assist to Gudmundsson

Genoa put the squeeze on in overtime Reggiana in the home match of the 1/16 finals of the Italian Cup – 2:1.

The team from Genoa experienced serious problems with the representative of Serie B. In the first half, the guests looked better and opened the scoring through the efforts of Muhamed Varela Jamanco.

After the break, the Griffins stepped up their game and turned the tide of the game. Quite quickly the hosts managed to get even – the ball was scored by Rigesiano Haps. But all subsequent attempts by Alberto Gilardino’s team to win the match in regular time were in vain.

Genoa’s Ukrainian midfielder Ruslan Malinovsky started the game on the bench and, it seemed, would not enter the field at all. Gilardino made five substitutions in 90 minutes, but an extra slot opened up for overtime. Ruslan came on in the 97th minute – and two minutes later he made an assist for another joker, Albert Gudmundsson. This goal became the winning goal.

Thus, Malinovsky is noted for his effective action for the second game in a row. Let us remind you that on October 27, the Ukrainian midfielder scored the first assist for Genoa in a game with Salernitana (1:0).

The Griffins will play their next match in the championship on November 5 against Cagliari away.
