Groupe Amaury, according to the partnership agreement, will own the brand and provide voting, while UEFA will promote commercial rights and host the ceremony
UEFA officially announced that it is joining forces with a media holding Groupe Amaury with the aim of creating a new, larger global platform for the prestigious award Ballon d’Or.
Groupe Amaury is a media group that owns publications such as France Football and L’Equipe. Under the new agreement, she will remain the owner of the Ballon d’Or brand and will continue to control the voting system.
UEFA, in turn, will promote global commercial rights and organize the annual awards gala.
Two new awards will be added to the awards program: men’s and women’s coach of the year.
The remaining categories will remain unchanged:
- Golden Ball (men);
- Golden Ball (women);
- Kop Trophy (best under-21 player);
- Yashin Trophy (best goalkeeper);
- Gerd Müller Trophy (top scorer of the previous season);
- Trophy for the best men’s club of the season;
- Trophy for the best women’s club of the season;
- Socrates Prize (humanitarian work).
Let us remind you that late in the evening of October 30, Lionel Messi won the Ballon d’Or for the eighth time. The 36-year-old Argentine beat out Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe for the 2023 Player of the Year award.
The award ceremony took place at the Chatelet Theater in Paris. Also at the event, the Kop Trophy (best young player award) was won by Jude Bellingham, Emiliano Martinez won the Yashin Trophy and Erling Haaland won the top scorer award. Manchester City and Barcelona were recognized as the best men’s and women’s football clubs.
The Ballon d’Or award from France Football has existed since 1956. From 2010 to 2015, the award was presented jointly with FIFA.
