Another victim of Russian military aggression
Father Gordeya Nikolaenkogoalkeeper MFK Metallurg (Zaporozhye), died in the war with the Russian occupiers.
This is far from the first victim of a full-scale Russian invasion directly related to Ukrainian football.
In the summer of 2023, the father of Shakhtar defender Diana Kravchuk died in the war with Russia. Also in September, Sergei Riznyk, brother of Gornyaki goalkeeper Dmitry Riznyk, died as a result of a mine-explosive injury near the village of Novoyehorivka in the Lugansk region.
Proud Nikolaenko is 19 years old. He has already played 4 matches for the Metallurg first team in the First League. Played three minutes this season.
Metallurg is fighting for a place in the championship round of Group B of the First League. Four rounds before the end, the Cossacks occupy a passing fifth place, two points ahead of Poltava. Tomorrow, November 4, Metallurg will host Ingulets, who had previously secured their place in the elite round ahead of schedule.
In the early hours of February 24, 2022, Russia launched rocket and air strikes on most Ukrainian cities and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The war against Russia has continued for the 619th day.
