Russian figure skater Dmitry Aliyev in an interview with Sport24 he confessed that he was happy with the American’s gold medal Nathan Chen in individual skating at the Beijing Olympics.
– During the Olympics, you posted several posts on social networks – about Mark Kondratyuk, our skaters. Did you calmly watch the Games, or was it somehow hooked that you weren’t in Beijing?
– Of course, I was addicted to the fact that I did not go to the Olympics. I only watched Mark, Nathan Chen, if we’re talking about boys. I also watched all of our girls’ free programs. That’s all I watched.
– What emotions arose while watching?
– I was very happy for my friend, who achieved such a result this season. And in no way envious! It is his success. And I needed to support him in this success – to show that I have no desire, that I am sincerely happy.
As for Nathan… Honestly, I really wanted this person to win the individual classification, despite the fact that I have Russian friends. He did a lot for figure skating, pushed our sport to a huge leap forward. He showed how you can jump, how much you can jump and how you can and should roll. Therefore, I really wanted that person to win,” Aliyev said.
