“Olympic champions Protopopov and Belousova will forever remain in our memory” – Navka

Two-time Olympic pairs skating champions Oleg Protopopov and Lyudmila Belousova will forever be remembered by figure skating fans; they are legends of national sport, Olympic figure skating champion Tatiana Navka told .

On Friday, the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) announced that Protopopov had died at the age of 91. During his sports career, the skater performed in tandem with his wife Lyudmila Belousova. The duo won the USSR championships six times, the world and European championships four times and won gold at the 1964 and 1968 Olympics. Belousova died in September 2017.

— I offer my condolences to the family and friends of Oleg Alekseevich. Protopopov and Belousova are legends of our sport, remembered by all Soviet spectators and fans of figure skating. They will remain in our memory forever,” Navka told .
