The head coach of the Russian national figure skating team, Elena Chaikovskaya, told that she was unaware of the death of Oleg Protopopov.
First, the Skating Lesson podcast reported the death of the famous figure skater at the age of 91. Later on Friday, the information was confirmed by the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).
“I am not aware of this news, so I will not make any comments,” Tchaikovsky told .
Protopopov performed in tandem with his wife Lyudmila Belousova. The duo won the USSR championships six times (1962-1964, 1966-1968), the World and European Championships four times (1965-1968) and won gold at the 1964 and 1968 Olympic Games.
