The miner said goodbye to Lucescu: Thank you for everything, Mister!

Mircea devoted exactly a third of his long coaching career to Ukrainian football

Miner addressed the 78-year-old with gratitude Mircea Lucescu, who just announced his retirement from coaching. For 12 years, Mircea worked as the head coach of the Donetsk club.

“Mircea Lucescu dedicated 15 years of his brilliant career to working in Ukrainian football. It was here that he achieved the greatest success: he won 25 trophies, becoming the most titled coach in the history of independent Ukraine, and was recognized as coach of the year 9 times. The enormous contribution of Mircea Lucescu to the development of football in our country cannot be overestimated. His playing style has always been considered one of the most striking in European football, and his coaching ideas and philosophy have been a reference point for many of his colleagues. The Romanian mentor trained many talented players, some of whom became stars of Ukrainian and world football.”

“Mircea Lucescu played an outstanding role in the modern history of Shakhtar Donetsk, becoming the personification of the club’s most successful era. Over the course of 12 seasons, he won many incredible victories with the team and won 22 trophies, including 8 Ukrainian champion titles and the UEFA Cup in 2009. Under his leadership, Shakhtar reached a new level, receiving recognition throughout football Europe.”

“What deserves special respect is that after the outbreak of the war in Donbass in 2014 and the full-scale Russian invasion in February 2022, Mircea Lucescu did not leave Ukraine, but continued to work, help Ukrainian football with all his might and support the Ukrainians.”

“With these achievements, Mircea Lucescu forever inscribed his name in the history of Ukrainian football and leaves Ukraine with the status of a legend.”

“Thank you for everything, Mister!”

It is symbolic that Lucescu resigned after Dynamo’s defeat in the match with Shakhtar (0:1). The coach announced that he had decided to end his coaching career, which lasted 45 years. He started in his native Romania, then coached in Italy for many years, before switching to Turkey at the turn of the century. From 2004 to 2016, Lucescu was Shakhtar’s coach – his achievements and trophies are mentioned above.

In 2020, the Romanian was sensationally signed by Dynamo Kiev. In the first season under the leadership of the Romanian, the Kiev team became the champion of Ukraine, and also won the Ukrainian Cup and Super Cup.

Shakhtar, with 24 points, is third in the UPL, having a game in hand compared to Kryvbas (26 points). Dynamo scored only 16 points, but played two matches less than the leader.
