Synchronist Maltsev on the participation of men in group programs: “I had such an experience, if necessary, I will be ready”

Quadruple world champion in synchronized swimming Alexander Maltsev in an interview with , he said that the possibility of including men in group competitions at the Olympics would be a compromise on this issue, and also expressed his willingness to perform in this type of program.

FINA has proposed allowing men to compete in group competitions, including the Olympics. Previously, only women participated in group competitions. The men perform in mixed pairs, but this guy doesn’t have Olympic status yet.

— We have already seen such a program at the World Series. It was more interesting for me to watch a mixed team, even though the team was a club team and competed with national teams from other countries. Of course, I would like it to be a separate discipline, so that the mixed teams are not in competition with the women’s teams. Now it is technically difficult to do this – it is impossible to stretch an infinite number of disciplines, but it is also impossible to do only mixed groups at a time. So far, not all countries have an athlete who can be placed in a group. So the decision on the possibility of exposing up to two men in groups is a kind of compromise, Maltsev told .

Are you ready to join the group?

– Honestly, I like solo and mixed duo more. As a child, I performed in a band, I had experience. I can’t say that I’ve always dreamed of it, but if the technical staff decides to do it, if it’s necessary, I’m ready.

– It’s a chance to participate in the Olympics.

We will see how this situation develops. I don’t want to guess. Now we can’t play anywhere. I would like common sense to prevail and for us to continue to perform at the international level, – said Maltsev.
